    Review

This first entry in the Tangletree Mysteries graphic novel series depicts the adventures in the Tangletree forest, where animals take on a life humans have no idea about! There, pet dog Peggy is an intrepid investigator solving mysteries.

The first thing she has to sleuth out is the mystery of why everyone is so tired all the time--they can't even keep their eyes open to participate in a town hall meeting about the problem! When Peggy discovers that the local librarian is using trees to mind-control the residents into returning their books on time, she puts a stop to it at once. The librarian apologises profusely and explains that she got upset about the late returns and thought it was the only thing she could do! The other animals agree to return their books on time, and all is well.

In the second part of the story, Peggy has to take down a rogue course-setting robot when the cross-country race gets completely out of control! Luckily she's able to keep up with the town's two best runners and is even awarded a prize for her bravery and resilience.

A fun, quirky adventure perfect for young readers with big imaginations. The flat colour digital illustrations bring the Tangletree Woods and the cast of characters to life, and the simple dialogue makes for an easy read.
