    Review

Wigley Primary is preparing for their annual sports day, and everyone in Mr Reed’s class is very excited—except Sol, who had a bad experience at a sports day when he was younger. Nonetheless, the class excitedly brainstorms some fun, different events for their sports day, including Speed Dressing, Book Balancing, and the crowd favourite Tug of War.

Split into teams, the class begins training in earnest—everyone wants their team to win! Noodle the Doodle, the class dog, participates enthusiastically—he fetches the frisbee faster than anyone else can catch it and, together with Marty’s new puppy Daniel, causes a general ruckus for the training students.

Before long, the big day arrives, and things are going well…until it begins to rain. Mr Reed insists that they must cancel the remaining events, but the class is adamant: they want to play Tug of War and declare a winner! Mr Reed eventually agrees, the three teams form into two, and Tug of War is under way!

One team has seven students, and the other six, so it’s no surprise the bigger team looks set to win…until Noodle lends a helping hand—or should we say paw?!

Everyone agrees that it has been the best sports day ever, and they head back to class, enjoying their well-earned victory icecreams—because they were all winners, really!

The third installment in the fun and heart-warming Noodle the Doodle series, this story has a wonderful message about having fun and trying your best. Noodle is as delightfully silly as ever, and the simple story, meaningful moral, and engaging illustrations make for a wonderful read for younger reluctant readers.
