    Review

#1: Sarah Fenhardt is a senior at Enterprise Academy, one of the most prestigious schools in the US. But unlike the other students, she doesn’t come from a wealthy home. In fact, she’d be almost completely unnoticed amongst the rich boarding school kids if it wasn’t for her best friend Jillian (whose boyfriend, Dan, Sarah has a huge crush on), and the creepy Frank Howell who is always trying to get her alone. Sarah’s mum left when she was a kid, and her dad spends most of his time trying to restore the fortune he made and lost in the 1980s with his tech company. There’s a sizeable offer on the table for the technology he and his business partner Mark have been working on, but he doesn’t want to take it. Arriving home one night, Sarah finds their home has been robbed and her father killed. With nowhere to go, Dan and his family offer to take her in. Although at first grateful for their kindness, Dan’s overly protective attitude starts to seem increasingly strange. Is she really a guest… or could it be she is a prisoner?

When a strange man follows them, Sarah discovers there is definitely more going on than meets the eye. Particularly when Dan morphs into an alien and shoots him with a death ray from his mobile phone! No-one who knew her seems to remember her anymore and she’s completely at Dan’s mercy. Then Jillian turns up. Turns out she’s one of them too. Is anything as it seems? Is Sarah the ordinary girl she has always seen herself as, or could it be that she is really the lost heir to another kingdom? The heir the Vendels – and their enemies – have spent sixteen years searching for?

Now Sarah’s not only on her way to another planet, she’s about to become the focal point for the political machinations of a power-hungry court… Along the way she may just learn that she is far stronger and more determined than she had ever imagined. A great sci-fi romance which is the promising start of a new series.

#2: It’s been five months since Sarah discovered that she was not an ordinary schoolgirl at all, but the lost heir to the kingdom of Verindon. The time has passed quickly, and she is doing her best to adjust to life as the Overlord of their very different planet. The one thing she can’t deal with is the pressure to find a consort. She might have twenty carefully selected suitors to choose from, but the only one she wants is Keridan — the one partner she cannot have.

There are three important ceremonies she must go through to be officially crowned, but an unknown enemy is determined to stop her. Assassination attempts come thick and fast, and it is up to the Agents to stop them and discover what is really going on. The one upside? Keridan has no choice but to spend time with her. He is her chief bodyguard after all. Will the truth behind the attempts on her life be revealed in time to stop Verindon from being overrun? The clock is ticking…

This is Book 2 in the Verindon trilogy and follows on from The Heir.

#3: In an effort to prevent High Commander Denzik from marrying Keridan to another agent, Sarah announces that she will marry. Her hope is that by the time the ceremony comes, she will have found a way for her and Keridan to be together. Her plan fails, and she is forced to announce her engagement to Ardon.

Standing on the balcony at the Place of Meeting with Ardon, she recognises a woman in the crowd. Keridan captures her, and it turns out to be Amanda Fenhardt, Sarah's ‘human’ adoptive mother from Earth. It is discovered that she was really an alien for hire named Korviki. It is clear that Korviki has allowed them to capture her because she wants to talk to Sarah, but she will not talk in front of the agents. Sarah decides to set her free, as she hasn't done anything wrong. But when they later try to meet, it is too late. Korviki is dead and Sarah and Councillor Letz are taken prisoner by rogue agents who are trying to have Sarah deposed by proving she is illegitimate.

At risk, much to everyone’s surprise (including hers) Sarah suddenly turns into a lethal fighter and kills the rogue agents. When things have calmed down, they do a DNA test – a much more complex scan than what is done on earth – and discover the truth about her parentage.

It’s a secret that puts her in even more danger and leads to a showdown between Trayzon and Ardon. Sarah may no longer be the Overlord, but she definitely has skills. Skills that will make her an excellent agent, and may just lead her to the future she wanted all along…

An action packed and interesting finale to this romantic sci-fi trilogy.

    Content Notes

    Book 1:

    1. Another species has taken over some of the Agents (and others) in order to get to Sarah and invade Verindon. They do this by taking up host in their bodies and killing them from the inside out, until the original person is eventually completely gone. 2. Some kissing. 3. Some fight scenes, predominantly against alien species. 3. Devastated at Keridan’s insistence that they can’t be together, Sarah suggests they could have an affair. Keridan rebukes her and points out how wrong that would be and how she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she was lying to someone in that way. She realises what he says is true.

    Book 2:

    1. Halfway through chapter 2, Frank forces Sarah to kiss him and tries to grope her, and her shirt is ripped while she is escaping. It’s obvious he is attacking her but the scene is not graphic or distressing.

    Book 3:

    1. Korviki is killed. 2. Some non-graphic violence. 3. Sarah is illegitimate. 4. Sarah and Keridan are bonded, and spend their honeymoon in his apartment; this is not described (Chapter11).
