A chance encounter encourages Amber to use her powers for wildlife conservation. Needing to lay low and off the National Services radar, she and Irene head to the isolated Bird Island. Here, a sighting of the critically endangered Rainbow Parrot has caused a stir.

The media and conservationists want to learn more, but a multi-national oil company is thwarting all attempts to aid the parrots. A bounty is offered for the capture of a live pair of the birds, but they’re not the only ones in danger: there’s a price on Amber’s head. Soon, bounty hunters descend on the island and Amber must use all of Skydragon’s abilities to protect both herself and the parrot.

Another absorbing read in the enjoyable Skydragon action series. The continued emphasis on conservation issues makes this a topical read. Amber’s reunion with her brother at the end of the book also opens up a lot more avenues for story development. Pictures on almost every page mean it’s an easy read and ideal for reluctant readers.
