A story about never giving up on your talents, because even though what you do may not be appreciated right now, it may be in time. Possibly by someone you’d least expect.

Frank is a penguin with ideas. Mostly terrible ones. That’s why his fellow penguins are nervous when he shows them his strange new creation. Something they’d never seen or expected to see in their cold and colourless Antarctic world — a red hat.

    Review

Frank the penguin was known for his new ideas—he was full of them! Unfortunately, Frank’s ideas don’t usually end well, which is why the other penguins were nervous when he started wearing a red hat. The other penguins had never seen anything like it before and, despite Frank’s assurances that the colourful piece of clothing would help keep them warm, they were sceptical.

When Neville tried the hat on and was immediately eaten by a killer whale, that settled it—the other penguins wanted nothing to do with Frank’s evil hats!

Dejected, Frank tried making hats of all different colours, but the penguins wanted nothing to do with them. He was about to give up on his ideas when, to his surprise, a seal came up to him and asked for the last hat he had made. Apparently the seals had been keeping Frank’s discarded hats—and loving them!

With creatively textured illustrations that utilise colour to highlight important elements of the story, Frank’s Red Hat is the perfect blend of humour and heart, with a strong message about not giving up, being yourself, and discovering that appreciation may come from unexpected corners!
