This beautiful picture book directly addresses the reader as “little one”, and describes the importance, meaning, and value of Dreaming. The narrator explains that their Dreaming is different from everyone else’s, and that it tells of creation and the forming of sacred sites, and connects them to the spirits of their ancestors. Their Dreaming lives all around them in the present, as they connect to the land and share stories.
Detailed watercolour illustrations of Australian animals and plants are paired with gorgeous, watercolour-treated font, giving the book a delicate, dreamlike feeling. The narrator’s gentle voice seamlessly integrates Gundugurra words into the English phrases, so that readers get an immersive understanding of the meaning of the words—a word list with translations is included in the end. This is a beautiful book, perfect for reading aloud.
