    Review

The Playdate Adventure Club have just been on a school trip to the local Beekeeper’s association, where they learned all about honeybees. The next time they’re on a playdate, Katy, Cassie, Zia and Luca know exactly what they’d like to do! They want to go inside a beehive to see the bees making honey up close.

They eat some honey and close their eyes, imagining that they shrink to tiny versions of themselves. Now they just have to make their way to the hive!

They brave a summer shower, talk to an earthworm and a snail, and help a sick honeybee called Adira. When they arrive at the hive, the queen—Caspara—is happy to show them the process of making honey and teach them even more about the lives of bees.

By the time the Adventure Club return home, they’ve learned so much about bees that their brains are buzzing! They resolve to plant some wildflowers and be grateful for the wonderful work bees do in our environment.

A sweet and educational adventure. Playdate Adventures is a series of books about the power of imagination and play—each book follows the Club as they go on a fantastical adventure, and lists some guiding ideas for creating a playdate adventure of your own at the end.

While it works perfectly as a standalone read, The Honeybee Treasure Hunt is the 6th book in the series. Facts about bees and ideas on how to help bee populations are included in the back.

    Themes

bees, adventure, insects, nature, imagination, playdates

    Content Notes

The Club use their imaginations to explore the world, however it is implied that some of their adventures may be real. It’s unclear what mechanism causes them to grow and shrink.
