    Review

The Thing that lives at number 52 has always seemed lonely to the little girl living down the street. She sees the Thing in his garden on her way to school, and in his front room sometimes. One day, she decides to buy the Thing a flower as a gift, which makes him very happy. The two strike up a fast friendship, as the girl and her mum help bring some fun and friendship into the Thing’s life, but the girl notices that the Thing is still lonely. So, she organises a wonderful party, inviting all the other Things around to cheer up her friend. The party is a great success, and the Thing promises he will never forget it. Unfortunately, the time has come for him to leave—as he once told the girl, ‘all things have to go sometime. After watching her friend blow off into the sunrise, the girl misses the Thing terribly, but as time passes she always remembers the good times they shared…and besides, now she is friends with more Things than ever!

With gorgeously soft and colourful illustrations and a heart-warming story about friendship, this is a wonderful book for reading together with loved ones. The character design of the Thing is particularly engaging, and the friendship between the girl and the Thing is wonderful to watch unfold.
