All it takes is the will to make dreams come true. JUST ONE BEE is a story of hope, determination and never giving up: the story of One-bee and her dream to revert desolate wastes back to fields of flowers. But to change a desert to meadowland she needs to go it alone because when she comes across another bee, she discovers not only is he hoarding a single precious flower and a queen bee, but he refuses to believe positive change is possible. Other-bee does all he can to quash One-bee's dream. But One-bee's persistence, patience and optimism eventually prove Other-bee wrong, and she shows him how dreams can come true. Review

One-bee is the last bee left in a dry, dusty, dead, flowerless world…or so she thinks.

When she comes across a flower growing in the dust, she is excited—but what use is one flower? Dejected, One-bee flies away, only to see something in the distance: another bee, and he has another flower!

Unfortunately, Other-bee is a skinny, cranky, gloomy old thing, and he isn’t interested in One-bee’s promises of more flowers—he just wants to keep his flower and his Queen for himself. One-bee isn’t deterred though, and she doesn’t give up trying until she manages to pollinate Other-bee’s flower and grow fields and fields of beautiful new flowers. All because of just one little bee.

This story portrays a distinctly dark future for our planet without bees, but it is not without a ray of hope.

Just One Bee is a great resource to discuss the importance of bees within Earth’s ecosystem, and for topics of environmentalism, responsibility, and activism as a whole.

The gorgeous illustrations are all in tones of blue-grey, orange-brown and cream, showing the contrast between the washed-out and desolate beginning and the richly colourful end. An informative and engaging read.
