From the moment Rose is born, her faithful dalmation, Dotty, is by her side. She accompanies her through all of life's major milestones, from learning to walk to starting school. The pair form an inseparable bond as one season flutters into the next, and then the next. But as Rose begins to grow up, it seems that Dotty just can't keep up. This heartwarming story shows just how much our pets mean to us, and how they are there for no matter what. It also shows just how precious memories can be.

    Review

Since the moment she was born, Rose has had Dotty the dalmatian by her side. Girl and dog go everywhere and do everything together. Through spring. Summer, autumn, and winter, the two best friends play and frolic.

The whole time, Rose’s memories grow, recalling all their magical times together. Then one cold winter, Dotty’s legs begin to hurt, and she grows unwell. Rose spends all the time she can with Dotty, but that time can’t last forever.

After Dotty is gone, Rose is very sad, and for a long time struggles to remember her wonderful memories. Then one Spring day,  her memories finally come back and, remembering all of their wonderful times, Rose decides to write down all those wonderful memories, so she will never forget them again.

A touching story about grief and remembering those we’ve lost, this book shows young readers the process of recovering from loss, reminding them that people grieve in different ways and giving suggestions on how to remember those who aren’t around anymore.

Content Notes: The latter half of this story is about Rose coming to terms with Dotty’s death and working through her grief to be able to remember her memories of Dotty once again.
