Hi there, I'm Sherlock Bones - tawny frogmouth skeleton, chief sleuth and star of all museum-related investigations!

Today is an exciting day because the museum has a new exhibit - and a new mystery!

Together with my partners, the ever-brilliant Watts and talking bundle of fur Grace, I'm here to track down the ghost that's destroying the museum.

You might not be able to hear Watts, because, technically, she's a stuffed parrot, but I always know what she's thinking.

And right now she's thinking: Can we solve the mystery of the haunted painting?

'An offbeat, fun mystery that is absolutely perfect for readers who have enjoyed the Bad Guys, the Real Pigeons or the Mr Penguin books.'- Kim Gruschow

    Review

Sherlock Bones, the mystery-solving tawny frogmouth skeleton, is back again with his trusty sidekicks Watts the stuffed parrot and Grace the American racoon. The Natural History Museum has a brand-new art exhibit installed, The Art and Science Alliance, which has lots of creepy exhibits!

Unfortunately, the exhibit also comes with a scary mystery—one of the artworks, a painting of an Ancient Greek Hydra, is apparently haunted by the ghost of the Hydra! Bones, Watts, and Grace decide to investigate and find out what’s really going on in the new exhibit.

As they investigate, the three friends learn lots of new things about carnivorous plants, microscopic ‘monsters’, and made-up-sounding animals! Along the way, they have to avoid the ‘ghost’, which is ruining the exhibit, as well as the exhibit’s creator and the museum’s security guard, both of whom hate vermin like racoons and would love to exterminate Grace.

Finally, the three detectives get to the bottom of the mystery: the ‘ghost’ is actually an albino possum named Morrie, and she was just trying to protect a nest of baby owls! It turns out the baby owls got trapped in the exhibit, and Morrie was pretending to be a ghost to scare away predators and protect them. With the mystery solved, the three friends manage to let in the owlets’ mother to properly care for her babies, and the exciting new exhibition is able to open without a hitch. Another mystery solved by Sherlock Bones!

This lighthearted graphic novel teaches younger readers about different topics in art and science, illustrating the connection between the two fields without taking itself too seriously. With quirky illustrations, an engaging mystery, and a plethora of terrible puns, this is a fun story for younger readers.
