Whatever Buck tries to do for the contest-whistle, walk on stilts, blow bubbles-his tooth gets in the way. Will Buck ever learn to love what he hates the most, and embrace his inner tooth?

Beavers have two big front teeth—except for Buck and his uncle Henry, who have one massive front tooth instead. Buck is highly self-conscious and feels that his tooth is always getting in the way.

Buck lags behind while the others prepare for the local talent contest. He can’t walk on stilts or play a flute or do anything fun because his tooth is so big. And he doesn’t know how he feels about following in his uncle Henry’s footsteps to become a famous sculptor either.

Buck decides he must get rid of his tooth once and for all. He tries cracking nuts with it, asking his sisters to shut doors tied to it, and even asks a friend to “disappear” it using his stage magic. But nothing works.

When the day of the talent contest comes, Buck gets stuck in a log and rolls right into his uncle’s treasured masterpiece. Thinking quickly, he uses his tooth to repair the damage, making it even better than before! Everyone is overjoyed at his talent, and Buck is very glad he’s found something to do with his tooth.

A funny, easy read about talent, being yourself, and confidence. Buck’s friends and family help to support him, but what boosts his self-esteem is accepting himself, trying new things and being acknowledged for his new skills.
