"I will always be with you. Each time the wind blows, in your leaves is where you'll find me . . ."

When a wise old tree takes a tiny sapling into his care, they both learn what it means to make memories and put down roots. He keeps her sheltered from storms and shaded from the scorching sun, and supported by his love, she grows and grows.

There are so many things to see and to learn- how to appreciate the beauty of the world; how to be strong against the wind, but flexible enough to bend. Together, they make memories they'll hold on to forever.

But when the old tree's leaves begin to fall, it's time for the sapling to grow up and take her own place in the world--and to learn how to hold on to the memories that mean so much.

Filled with beautiful, luminous artwork, this beautiful picture book is a story for everyone--both young and old.

    Review

This gentle story of an older tree raising a younger tree examines grief and the power of memory. The two trees grow heart-shaped leaves for every memory--but as the older tree ages his leaves begin to fall, and he begins to forget.

Moving through the seasons from spring to winter, the two trees take a journey across a frozen wasteland far away. The older tree gives his last leaf to the younger tree, saying that it's his first memory of her. He tells her that when the wind rustles through her leaves, she will remember him. Then he disappears. Alone and afraid, the younger tree doesn't know how to get back home--until she sees the trail of fallen leaves the older tree has left behind, all made of special memories, guiding her home.

A beautiful, fable-like tale with stunning illustrations. This is a gentle way to explain grief and loss, and the beauty and power of remembering loved ones. The relationship between the older and younger tree is heartwarming and defines them both.
