PD McPem is at her grandparents’ house for the day, and she’s made an incredible discovery: in a box of her mother’s old things was a recorder. Soon PD is entertaining her grandparents with a rousing rendition of Silent Night—much to her grandmother’s ‘delight’. When the recorder mysteriously goes missing, PD is shocked and confused. Where could it have gone?
PD teams up with her grandfather to sleuth out the mystery of the disappearing recorder. Their investigations will take them all over the house, checking the scene of the crime, interviewing witnesses, and ruling out suspects. When the recorder is discovered in a hole in the couch, PD is overjoyed. Granny is so relieved (or perhaps just so guilty about hiding it) that she says PD can keep the recorder for good!
A hilarious mystery with delightful illustrations throughout, The Recorder Racket is a great introduction to the detective genre, including all the key components. Readers will learn about the difference between what is said (that Granny didn’t steal the recorder!) and what is implied (that Granny DEFINITELY stole the recorder). A highly entertaining read.
